Guwahati: The Assam government will soon begin a comprehensive survey of communities categorized as Other Backward Classes. Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Ashwini Ray Sarkar announced the initiative, which aims to collect updated data on the socio-economic status and demographics of these populations across the state.

The Assam Other Backward Classes Commission will lead the project. According to Sarkar, the primary goal of the exercise is to ensure the government can better design welfare and development programs. The minister noted that the survey will provide critical information to help the government create more effective schemes, stating, "The exercise aims to assess the socio-economic status and demographic profile of communities listed under the OBC category, which will help the government formulate more effective welfare and development policies."

Officials expect the collected data to guide future planning efforts. By gathering precise information on these communities, the state hopes to improve the delivery of services and ensure that support reaches the intended beneficiaries.
