Guwahati: Trinamool Congress leader Sherman Ali Ahmed addressed the ongoing debate surrounding cow sacrifice during the upcoming Bakrid festival on May 26. He spoke to reporters after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma requested that the public avoid the practice to honor the sentiments of the Hindu community.

Sarma noted that several Bengali Muslim organizations in Assam have already committed to this request. While Ali refrained from issuing a direct statement on the Chief Minister's appeal, he emphasized that the core tenets of Islam extend beyond religious rituals. He explained that the faith places a strong focus on humanity, social responsibility, and brotherhood.

Ali stated that a core tenet of Islam involves caring for one's neighbors, noting that religious prayers are considered incomplete if they ignore the well-being of those living nearby. He informed the press that he intends to share his complete perspective during his scheduled speech in the Assam Assembly on May 27.

The leader also touched upon the state of the economy. When questioned about the rising cost of living, Ali suggested that the issue has been a consistent trend over the last decade. He argued that since the current government continues to receive strong electoral mandates, the public has effectively accepted the reality of these ongoing price increases.
