Guwahati: A severe case of alleged corporal punishment has surfaced at the Khedaimari BN Popular Medium English School in the Dhubri district of Assam. A Class VII student, Ijazur Rahman, was reportedly attacked by his teacher, Hari Kishore Thakur, after failing to submit his homework.

Family members reported that the assault left visible injuries on the child's body. They added that the student suffered from a high fever and significant emotional distress in the aftermath of the encounter. This incident has ignited anger among local parents and student groups who are calling for immediate disciplinary action and the suspension of the accused teacher.

Protesters argue that physical violence as a disciplinary tool is illegal and harmful to student safety. One local resident stated, "The use of physical violence as a disciplinary measure in educational institutions is unacceptable and violates the rights and safety of children."

While corporal punishment remains prohibited under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, the practice continues to spark concern across the region. Authorities are expected to launch a formal inquiry into the event, though school management has yet to release an official statement regarding the allegations against Thakur.
