Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi on Monday to explore how India’s recent Free Trade Agreements can drive economic growth within his state. Sarma stated that these international partnerships hold significant potential for local entrepreneurs, farmers, and small business owners.

During the meeting at Vanijya Bhawan, the leaders discussed strategies to improve market access for goods produced in Assam. Sarma praised the Commerce Ministry for its work in finalizing these complex trade deals, noting that such agreements are vital for integrating regional producers into the global economy.

The discussion also included a review of the state's vital tea industry. Sarma said the two officials addressed specific challenges facing the sector to help secure its future. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that these trade initiatives will ultimately increase exports and strengthen Assam's role in the national economy.
