Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated economist Dr. Ashok Lahiri on his appointment as Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog. Following a meeting in New Delhi, the Chief Minister announced that the state intends to deepen its collaboration with the national policy think tank to accelerate local development.

Sarma highlighted that Dr. Lahiri possesses extensive experience in public finance and policy. The Assam government aims to leverage this expertise to improve governance, infrastructure, and welfare programs across the state. Officials believe this partnership will enhance policy execution and support the state in achieving its long-term growth objectives.

Dr. Lahiri brings over four decades of experience to the role, having previously served as the Chief Economic Adviser to the Indian government and as a member of the Finance Commission. His background also includes significant tenures at the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank. An alumnus of the Delhi School of Economics and Presidency University, he is widely regarded for his influence on economic governance and sustainable policy development.
