Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a major improvement in the state's maternal and child healthcare outcomes on June 1. Official data shows that 87.6 per cent of births now occur within healthcare institutions, while 90.7 per cent of all deliveries are attended by skilled medical personnel.

Sarma attributed these gains to the government's focus on expanding medical infrastructure and increasing the availability of doctors across the region. Enhanced maternal and newborn care services, paired with consistent efforts to lower mortality rates, have played a key role in this progress.

The Chief Minister highlighted these figures as evidence of rising public confidence in the state's health delivery system. He emphasized that the growth in new hospitals and medical facilities reflects a broader commitment to ensuring safer childbirth and better long-term health results for mothers and infants throughout Assam.
