Guwahati: Assam has lost control of nearly 83,000 hectares of land. Four neighboring states currently hold the territory. Border Protection and Development Minister Atul Bora confirmed these figures in the Assam Assembly on Wednesday.
Nagaland occupies the most ground. It holds 59,490 hectares of the disputed area. Arunachal Pradesh sits on another 16,144 hectares. Smaller chunks remain inside Mizoram and Meghalaya borders.
Eighteen districts face these land losses. Impacted areas include Sonitpur, Jorhat, Cachar, and Tinsukia. The state government remains focused on fixing these lines. They want permanent solutions.
Bora noted that dialogue is the primary path forward. The state has already signed deals with Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. These moves follow guidance from the Union Home Ministry. The minister told the House, "The Assam government has progressed to settle these border disputes with the neighbouring states through dialogues."
