Guwahati: Assam officials want two lakh houses done fast. Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Atul Bora announced this goal in the Assembly on July 8. The project falls under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin scheme. Since 2016, the state has finished 22 lakh units.

The clock is ticking. "In the next 100 days, our target is to complete two lakh new houses and hand them over to the people," Bora told the House. He spoke after Congress MLA Tanzil Hussain questioned the progress of the program.

Hussain claimed some houses had issues with geo-tagging and asked for a probe. Bora promised to check the allegations. The government says they already finished geo-tagging for nearly 21 lakh homes. A recent survey of almost 35 lakh houses will help the state pick new beneficiaries based on federal guidelines.
