Guwahati: MLA Krishnendu Paul has appealed to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to prioritize the urgent renovation of the NH-37 highway stretch running through Sribhumi town to the Sutarkandi border port. The legislator highlighted that residents have struggled for a long time due to the crumbling condition of this main road, which is essential for daily travel and commercial operations.

Recognizing the significance of the corridor, Chief Minister Sarma contacted Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to request a comprehensive repair project. This specific route is considered a strategic asset for regional connectivity and international trade, as it serves as a primary link for vehicles moving toward the border.

Upgrading the infrastructure is expected to bolster trade relations between India and Bangladesh through the Sutarkandi port. Authorities are currently reviewing the request, with further updates on the renovation project expected following the formal communication between the state and central governments.
