Guwahati: Nagaon gears up for a high-stakes vote. District Commissioner Aranyak Saikia confirmed on September 7 that 1,138,362 voters are eligible to participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha by-election. These voters represent five Assembly constituencies. The Election Commission plans to set up 1,339 polling stations across 684 locations.
Security remains a primary concern. The administrations of Nagaon and Morigaon have ordered residents to deposit all personal firearms starting Monday. Two strong rooms will secure the ballots and election materials. These will be stationed at the Nagaon Government Higher Secondary Boys' School and the Dawson Higher Secondary and Multipurpose School.
The process includes special provisions for vulnerable groups. Persons with disabilities and voters older than 85 can use a home-voting facility. Service voters will utilize postal ballots. Saikia stated, "Comprehensive arrangements are being made to ensure that the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election is conducted in a smooth, free and fair manner."
Officials have deployed 149 staff members to manage the workload. A dedicated control room is open for public queries. Voters can reach the team by dialing 1077 or 03672-238000. Every vote counts.
