Guwahati: Yunus Tamuli filed his nomination papers as an independent candidate for the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election. The Bagh Sena leader entered the contest without backing from established parties. He claims the ruling and Opposition camps failed to fix local issues.
Tamuli took aim at major political players during his filing on Thursday. He wants to represent the interests of ordinary voters against systemic exploitation. "I have not come to deceive the people by taking shelter under any major political party. The major political parties have failed to solve the real problems of the people of Nagaon. Therefore, I have come forward as an independent candidate to fight on behalf of the people," Tamuli said.
His organization, Bagh Sena, previously campaigned on public rights. Tamuli claims this history drives his current bid. Voters will decide his impact at the polls. His presence alters the math for the Nagaon constituency. The campaign will soon show how he changes the electoral stakes.
