Guwahati: Assam police busted a major drug ring in Bongaigaon district. They grabbed 10,000 Yaba tablets worth over Rs 3 crore during a late-night raid in Jogighopa. Officers caught the suspect, Mofidul Islam, near the FCI market. He lives in Koreya Pahar village.
The operation did not stop on the street. Police searched Islam’s home and found the massive stash of narcotics. Senior Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta confirmed the haul. He stated, "The seized narcotics have an estimated market value of around Rs 3 crore."
Islam was not alone in his criminal life. Records show he spent time in jail three times for drugs. His wife served two prison stints for similar charges. Investigators believe the suspect ran this trafficking network from his own house for a long time while dodging the law.
Officers also impounded a luxury vehicle and a motorcycle. They belong to the suspect. Jogighopa police booked Islam and locked him up. Detectives are now digging into where the drugs came from and who else helped run the operation.
