Guwahati: Assam Police nabbed two suspected United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent fighters in Jagun on June 26. The arrests followed a high-stakes counter-insurgency operation in Tinsukia district. Officers tracked the pair as they crossed the border from Myanmar through Jairampur, Arunachal Pradesh.

Police intercepted the suspects, identified by the aliases Chiyan Asom and Manoj Asom, inside a Swift car. The vehicle bore registration number AR20A5892. Intel led the cops to set a trap at Jagun Bazaar. They caught them cold. The raid turned up two AK-56 assault rifles, six magazines, and a cache of grenades.

The suspects now sit in custody in Tinsukia. Police plan to grill them on their objectives and ties to insurgent activities. According to initial reports, the two arrested cadres have been identified by their aliases as Chiyan Asom and Manoj Asom. Authorities are still working to piece together the full scope of their mission.
