Guwahati: Assam police have captured the alleged mastermind behind a high-profile armed robbery at the residence of a Moran hotel owner. Pranjal Gogoi, a resident of Balijan Chapori in Chabua, was taken into custody after evading authorities for nearly 15 months.
The robbery occurred over a year ago when a gang stormed the hotel owner's home. The victim managed to detain one suspect during the incident, which prompted a long-term police investigation. While officers successfully apprehended several other gang members and recovered various weapons, Gogoi had remained on the run.
Moran Police tracked the suspect to Chabua following a series of intelligence-led operations. Authorities have charged Gogoi under Sections 310(4) and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, as well as Section 25(1A) of the Arms Act. A police spokesperson confirmed the significance of the operation, stating, "The arrest marks a significant breakthrough for Moran Police in one of the area's most high-profile robbery cases in recent years."
The local community and the victim's family have welcomed the arrest. Officials are continuing their investigation to determine if Gogoi was involved in other criminal activities across the region.
