Assam parents launch hunger strike over daughter’s suicide

Guwahati: Ainee Sonowal’s parents started a 25-hour hunger strike Wednesday in Moran. The couple demands the arrest of a teacher and a classmate’s father. They blame the duo for the 14-year-old’s death on June 16.

The family says Ainee faced brutal mental harassment after creating a fake Instagram account featuring her teacher, Chandrani Pradhan. According to the parents, Pradhan dragged the girl into school and pushed her to post an admission of guilt on WhatsApp. Fear and shame broke the teenager.

Police have not made a move. The family says the teacher is currently on the run. Local activist groups, including the All Assam Students’ Union, joined the protest at Bamunbari Tini Ali to back the family’s claims.

Protest leaders issued a stern warning to authorities. They declared, "If the accused are not arrested within the next seven days, they would launch a larger democratic agitation demanding justice for the deceased student."

Police remain silent. No official word has come from local law enforcement regarding the ongoing investigation or the specific allegations filed in the FIR.
