Guwahati: Assam just opened India’s first government-approved artificial inoculation training and research centre. Located at Alengi in Titabar, Jorhat, the facility aims to fix a long-standing production gap. Local farmers currently struggle because natural resin formation is largely limited to the Jorhat, Golaghat, and Sivasagar districts.
The initiative arrives through a partnership between AASGA and Vanadguri Agarwood. It teaches growers how to use scientific methods to trigger resin in trees, a process that normally occurs unevenly across the state. This center provides the technical edge farmers need to compete globally. It turns unproductive wood into high-value product.
Skilled trainers and sectoral experts lead these practical sessions. Institutions like Rainforest are also providing essential support for capacity-building. This effort promises to stabilize the agarwood economy by creating new income streams for growers. Officials stated the goal is "helping farmers produce high-quality agarwood through scientific techniques." With better practices, Assam expects to claim a much larger slice of the international market.
