Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma pushed a massive school construction project into high gear this week. He claims 218 model schools now operate across tea garden regions to pull local students out of historical educational neglect. The move aims to fix deep-seated socio-economic hurdles for families working the land.
The numbers speak for themselves. Roughly 40,734 students currently attend these new institutions. Of the total buildings completed, 199 facilities are open and running right now. Teachers are in classrooms. Students are showing up.
Sarma touted the shift on social media. He pointed out that kids in these areas once faced a future with few options. Now, the government claims it has provided better facilities and faculty to change that path. "Today, that story has changed. 218 Tea Garden Model Schools with modern classrooms, improved facilities and quality faculty are empowering our students to dream big and achieve them," the Chief Minister said.
These schools prioritize modern infrastructure. The state hopes these buildings serve as a bridge for children in tea-growing communities to access the same quality schooling found elsewhere. It is a calculated bet on the next generation.
