Guwahati: Assam Chief Secretary and Director General of Police Harmeet Singh met on Wednesday to finalize preparations for the Ambubachi Mahayog 2026. The religious event, set to take place at the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati from June 22 to June 26, is expected to draw a massive number of devotees.
Authorities focused their planning on crowd management, law enforcement, and security measures including widespread CCTV surveillance. The review also covered traffic flow, parking, and pedestrian safety. Infrastructure readiness at key transit points, such as Kamakhya Railway Station and Pandu Port, remains a top priority for the state.
The meeting addressed essential services for pilgrims, including sanitation, drinking water, and emergency medical support. Officials evaluated disaster management protocols, confirming the deployment of NDRF and SDRF teams to ensure safety. Special provisions are being organized for elderly and differently-abled visitors, along with plans for consistent power supply and lighting.
The Chief Secretary urged all agencies to maintain tight collaboration to meet strict project deadlines. He directed departments to complete all pending infrastructure and logistical tasks promptly to ensure "safe, orderly, and hassle-free arrangements for devotees during Ambubachi Mahayog 2026."
