Guwahati: Assam ministers arrived at the state BJP headquarters, Vajpayee Bhavan, on June 6 in a joint carpooling effort. The initiative serves as a response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's national appeal to reduce fuel consumption and exercise fiscal prudence in public life. The move also comes amid broader concerns regarding the global economic climate and the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

State minister Pijush Hazarika announced the decision on social media, confirming that he and several Cabinet colleagues shared vehicles for the trip. Hazarika stated, "Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji has asked us all to be prudent in public conduct and Hon'ble CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma dangoriya has also asked us all to cut down on unnecessary costs."

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the effort in a public response. He described the carpooling as a good initiative and emphasized that public representatives hold a responsibility to lead by example when adopting austerity measures.
