Guwahati: Assam Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Pijush Hazarika held key meetings with Union officials in New Delhi on Tuesday to bolster the state's agricultural infrastructure. During his discussions with Union Minister of Jal Shakti CR Patil, Hazarika outlined the significant irrigation potential offered by the Brahmaputra river system and its various tributaries.

Hazarika pointed out that while the state has the capacity to irrigate nearly 27 lakh hectares of farmland, current schemes only reach about 7 lakh hectares. The talks centered on closing this gap by improving infrastructure in alignment with the national Har Khet Ko Pani initiative. Following the meeting, Hazarika noted that the Union Minister "expressed confidence in supporting the state's efforts to strengthen irrigation facilities and benefit farmers."

Separately, Hazarika met with Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. This session served as an introductory courtesy visit following Hazarika's recent appointment. The ministers reviewed the current agricultural landscape in Assam, along with existing development projects and future growth prospects. Chouhan reportedly committed full support from the central government to ensure the ongoing advancement of the sector and the well-being of the region's farming community.
