Guwahati: Authorities in Assam have arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl in the Ambagan area of Nagaon district. The incident has triggered significant outrage among local residents.
Ambagan police apprehended the suspect, identified as Hirendra Mondal, a resident of Bhurbandha, shortly after the allegations surfaced. Following his arrest, police produced him before a local court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Officials have registered a formal case against Mondal under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 127(2), 65(2), 239, and 351(2). He also faces charges under sections 6 and 21 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Regarding the ongoing efforts to address the crime, police sources stated, "a case was registered and an investigation launched after allegations emerged that the minor had been sexually assaulted."
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident as they finalize their report.
