Guwahati: The newly formed 16th Assam Legislative Assembly is set to convene its inaugural session from May 21 to May 26. Assembly Secretary Dulal Pegu confirmed the schedule on May 19, noting that the session was officially summoned by the Governor of Assam.

As preparations begin in Guwahati, officials are currently finalizing various procedural requirements. This includes establishing seating arrangements for the newly elected members and initiating the formation of essential Assembly committees to facilitate legislative operations.

Regarding the recognition of the Leader of the Opposition, Pegu indicated that the decision rests with the Speaker of the Assembly. He noted that the designation is contingent upon the numerical strength of the opposition parties within the House, and the Speaker will make the final determination on formalizing the role.
