Guwahati: Assam kicked off its e-Zero FIR initiative Tuesday. The move aims to put a dent in rising cybercrime numbers across the state. Cyber fraud complaints filed via the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal or the 1930 helpline will now flip directly into formal FIRs. Police can act fast.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the rollout on social media. He positioned the policy as a key effort to bypass jurisdictional red tape. The state wants to speed up investigations and boost recovery rates for victims. Time kills investigations, and the government knows it.
The system applies to financial scams worth more than Rs 10 lakh. Cases hit the books instantly. No waiting around for paperwork. In his announcement, Sarma stated, "Furthering Adarniya @narendramodi Ji's vision of a Cyber Secure Bharat, Assam has today officially rolled out the e-Zero FIR initiative."
Sarma thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the guidance and gave a nod to the Assam Police for the quick implementation. The initiative keeps the state ahead of the curve. Officials expect the tech-driven fix to provide a much-needed layer of protection for residents facing digital theft.
