Guwahati: Assam has provided permanent homes to 22 lakh families through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin. The state reached this milestone over the last decade. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the news on July 4. He credits the progress to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The government spent Rs 27,730 crore on the project. This money helped rural families build durable houses. It is a massive investment. Assam now holds the number two spot nationwide for fund distribution under the scheme.
Sarma says the initiative ensures residents live with dignity. He stated, "Assam's journey towards achieving the vision of Housing for All has set new benchmarks under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi." Officials say they remain committed to upgrading living standards across all rural corners of the state.
