Guwahati: The Assam government has paused its subsidized scheme for masur dal, sugar, and salt effective June 1. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the temporary suspension due to the current Vote-on-Account budget arrangement, which limits spending until a full state budget is finalized.

The program will remain inactive until the newly constituted government approves the complete budget. Officials confirmed that the distribution of these subsidized goods is expected to resume in August once legislative approval is secured.

While the supplement scheme is on hold, the state’s food security program will continue operating as usual. Beneficiaries will keep receiving their monthly allotment of free rice without any interruption during this transitional budget period.
