Assam Governor Honors Kargil Veterans at Guwahati Memorial

Guwahati: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya attended a Kargil Vijay Diwas event on July 26 at the State War Memorial in Dighalipukhuri, Guwahati. He honored soldiers who died during the 1999 Kargil War. The Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam, organized the service to mark India's victory and recognize the bravery of the Indian Armed Forces.

Acharya laid flowers at the memorial site. He told the crowd that the day acts as a reminder of the grit shown by troops protecting national soil. "Kargil Vijay Diwas serves as a reminder of the valour and patriotism displayed by the armed forces in safeguarding the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity," the Governor stated. He challenged young people to mirror the dedication of these heroes in their own work.

The Governor met with veterans, active troops, and families of the dead. He handed out honors to family members of five fallen soldiers. High-ranking military brass, civil servants, ex-servicemen, NCC cadets, and students joined the public to watch the ceremony. The event ended with patriotic performances and a group pledge to protect national unity.
