Assam Government Waives Admission Fees for Over 185,000 Students

Guwahati: More than 1.85 lakh undergraduate students in Assam have secured admission for the current academic year without paying any fees. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the update on June 19, pointing to the success of the state government’s ongoing education welfare initiatives.

The fee-waiver program aims to alleviate the financial strain on families and remove economic barriers that might otherwise prevent students from pursuing higher education. By removing these costs, the government hopes to foster higher enrollment rates across both urban and rural regions of the state.

Sarma emphasized that the initiative represents a significant commitment to social development through academic support. Regarding the impact of the program, the Chief Minister said, "ZERO admission fees paid by over 1.85 lakh UG students in Assam this year, till now. It's not a mere statistic but a barometer of how wide the coverage of our welfare schemes are and how it's transforming the foundations of our society by ensuring seamless continuity in education."

This achievement highlights the broader efforts of the Assam government to implement educational reforms and expand accessibility for its youth. The administration continues to prioritize student welfare to ensure that economic circumstances do not hinder academic progress.
