Guwahati: Assam Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Kaushik Rai ordered a total rewrite of Guwahati's drainage plans this Sunday. He told consultants to go back to the drawing board for the GIS-based Comprehensive Drainage Master Plan and the Bahini-Bharalu Basin project report. The city faces constant waterlogging.
Officials met at Janata Bhawan to pick apart the current proposals for fixing the stormwater system. They looked at how to make the infrastructure stand up to heavy rain. Rai wants a system that works, not just a plan on paper.
The minister demanded a fix for all technical gaps. He told the team, "Rai emphasised the need for a practical and resilient drainage framework capable of addressing waterlogging across Guwahati." Everyone involved must review the updated work before any final sign-off to ensure no mistakes slip through.
High-level staff attended the meeting, including officials from the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority and the Guwahati Municipal Corporation. They spent hours discussing how to speed up priority projects. The state wants better efficiency and long-term results to keep the city dry.
