Assam Flood Forces Mising Council Election Roll Delay

Guwahati: Assam State Election Commission officials pushed back the schedule for the 2026 Mising Autonomous Council election rolls. Relentless flooding across the state stopped work. Workers could not finish the process on time. Heavy rains forced the delay.

The Commission issued a notification this Tuesday, July 21. They cited Rule 16 of the Mising Autonomous Council Election Rules, 2005. Officials now plan to publish the draft electoral roll on July 29, 2026. This move keeps the process moving despite the weather.

Voters have until August 13 to file claims or objections. Staff will clear those files by August 20. The final list hits the street on August 24, 2026. All other terms from the June 30, 2026 notification stay in effect. The Commission stated the change is to "ensure the smooth completion of the electoral roll process while providing adequate opportunity for eligible voters to register and seek corrections."
