Guwahati: The Assam Trinamool Congress officially launched its new state headquarters in Guwahati on Tuesday, September 1. Party leaders Nadimul Haque, a Rajya Sabha MP from West Bengal, and Assam state in-charge Sherman Ali Ahmed inaugurated the site. Nearly 300 party workers gathered for the opening and an organizational meeting.
The party formally committed to contesting the upcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election during the event. Ahmed told reporters that the process to pick a candidate has already started. He set strict standards for the nominee. "The candidate should be highly educated, honest and dedicated, and should be able to speak clearly either in Hindi or English," Ahmed said.
Aspirants have until September 5 to collect and submit application forms at the new office. The seat opened up after Pradyut Bordoloi left Congress for the BJP and secured a win in the Dispur Assembly constituency. The TMC claims the state needs a fresh path. Ahmed stated that voters want an alternative to both the BJP and Congress. The party plans to center its campaign on the rights of indigenous people and their local concerns.

The race for the Nagaon seat is heating up on the other side of the aisle. The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has hit the ground running with an aggressive campaign across the constituency. Party leader Rezaul Karim Sarkar recently rallied supporters at Tukutuki-Katohguri Bazar in the Dhing Assembly segment, framing the contest as a fight for minority representation.
Sarkar claims the district holds about 12.5 lakh minority voters and argues that a unified block vote for the AIUDF could secure the seat. He took aim at both the BJP and the Congress, accusing both parties of taking minority support for granted without offering real political power in return. The AIUDF is leaning hard into populist rhetoric, hitting the BJP on eviction drives and calling for voters to band together to protect their rights in Parliament.
