Guwahati: Upper Assam is drowning. Floodwaters rose sharply across Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat districts following relentless downpours. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed on July 19 that the state government requested the Indian Army and Indian Air Force to remain on standby for emergency evacuations. Help waits in the wings.
Sarma addressed the escalating crisis through a post on X. He stated, "As the flood situation in Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat continues to worsen, Government of Assam has requested the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force to be on standby to support evacuation and rescue operations, if required."
The administration is moving fast. Sarma dispatched senior ministers Ajanta Neog, Bimal Bora, Keshab Mahanta, and Sushanta Borgohain to the disaster zones. They must supervise relief efforts and ensure aid reaches every impacted family immediately. No one gets left behind.
Sarma continues to track the data from his office. The Chief Minister emphasized his commitment to public safety during the emergency. "The safety and well-being of our people is our highest priority. I am monitoring the situation round the clock and we will take every necessary step to protect lives and provide all possible relief," he said.
