Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that more than 18.6 lakh farmer families in the state will receive a total of Rs 372.01 crore under the 23rd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. The government will transfer these funds directly into the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries to support agricultural activity and rural livelihoods.
Sarma highlighted the significance of the income support program in a recent social media post. "Empowering the Annadatta is the cornerstone of a developed India. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, an amount of Rs 372.01 crore will be directly transferred to the accounts of 18.60 lakh-plus farmer families in Assam under the 23rd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi," he stated.
The PM-Kisan scheme was launched in 2019 to provide small and marginal farmers with an annual financial benefit of Rs 6,000. This amount is disbursed in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000 through the Direct Benefit Transfer mechanism. The Chief Minister reiterated that the central government remains committed to strengthening the economic security of farmers, whom he described as the backbone of national growth.
