Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated significant natural gas projects on June 16, marking a push toward cleaner energy across the region. The virtual launch included the start of Piped Natural Gas supply in Mangaldai and the opening of new Compressed Natural Gas facilities in Tezpur.
These initiatives, led by the North East Gas Distribution Company Limited, seek to provide eco-friendly fuel options for local households, businesses, and vehicles. Officials noted that the expansion is expected to strengthen Assam's energy infrastructure, reduce dependence on conventional fuels, and support the state's transition towards sustainable development.
Following the infrastructure launch, the Chief Minister held a review session with the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited to evaluate the progress of key power projects. During the meeting, Sarma assessed generation capacity, peak-hour demand, and modernization efforts designed to ensure reliable and affordable electricity for all residents.
The Chief Minister specifically reviewed measures aimed at reducing Transmission and Distribution losses, stating, "He also reviewed the status of various ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening Assam's power infrastructure and improving service delivery." His oversight focused on ensuring that service improvements reach households across the state.
