Guwahati: Excise teams tore through Assam’s Margherita region late July 9. They targeted the Namdang Tea Estate and several roadside dhabas lining National Highway 315. The hunt ran from Ledo to Jagun.
Officials tracked down four distinct excise cases during the push. They confiscated 0.75 bulk litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor and another 24.5 bulk litres of beer. The stash sat hidden in plain sight at the tea estate. Officers dumped 400 litres of fermented wash on the ground to destroy it.
The Tinsukia District Road Safety Committee ordered the crackdown. The administration wants to clean up the highways and stop illegal booze production. Officials said the drive forms part of the district administration's ongoing efforts to curb the illegal sale and manufacture of liquor and strengthen road safety by checking violations at roadside establishments along major highways.
Authorities booked the violators under Section 53(1)(a) of the Assam Excise Act. They also served formal notices to three people under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
