Guwahati: Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu has dismissed reports suggesting the state government failed to reimburse colleges for fee waivers. Addressing the claims on Monday, Pegu stated the government has already disbursed Rs 204.94 crore for the 2025-26 academic year and fully settled all outstanding dues from the previous year.

Responding to allegations of financial negligence, the minister described the reports as "completely false, misleading and without any factual basis." While confirming the majority of funds are accounted for, Pegu acknowledged a remaining balance of Rs 30 crore. He promised this amount will be released once the current Budget Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly concludes.

The Fee Waiver Scheme serves as a vital component of the state government strategy to remove financial barriers for students. Pegu reiterated that the administration remains committed to the initiative, which aims to provide equitable access to higher education across Assam. Officials intend to ensure the program continues to function without interruption to protect students from financial hardship.
