Guwahati: Assam Don Bosco University has officially dismissed Dr. Saurabh Chandra, the Head of the Department of Public Administration, following a sexual harassment complaint filed on June 14. The university confirmed his termination took effect on June 16, just two days after the initial report was lodged by a second-year undergraduate student who accused the professor of inappropriate conduct.

The incident triggered significant unrest at the university's Sonapur campus. Students staged large-scale protests on June 15, demanding accountability and an impartial inquiry into the allegations. The situation escalated to the point that police were deployed to the campus to maintain order as students called for better safeguards for the safety of women.

Following the complaint, the university referred the case to its Internal Complaints Committee. The committee met on June 15 to conduct an inquiry according to legal protocols and institutional policies. The university emphasized its strict stance on the matter, stating, "It follows a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment and misconduct and will continue to support victims and witnesses while ensuring due process."

In response to the controversy, the administration announced plans to improve campus security by installing additional CCTV cameras. University officials also reiterated their commitment to the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act of 2013 and urged the community to respect the confidentiality of the ongoing proceedings.
