Guwahati: Assam Don Bosco University has terminated Saurabh Chandra, the former head of the Public Administration department, following a formal sexual harassment complaint. The university confirmed the dismissal on June 16, just two days after receiving the allegation from a second-year undergraduate student.

The student accused the faculty member of engaging in inappropriate advances and misconduct. This report prompted protests at the university's Sonapur campus on June 15, as students gathered to demand immediate action and an impartial investigation into the matter. Police were deployed to the site as demonstrations intensified.

The university referred the case to its Internal Complaints Committee immediately after the report was filed. The committee held an inquiry on June 15, following standard legal procedures. In an official statement, the university emphasized its commitment to campus safety, noting that it "follows a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment and misconduct and would continue to support victims and witnesses while ensuring due process."

In response to the incident, the institution announced plans to enhance security measures, including the installation of additional CCTV cameras. The administration reaffirmed its adherence to the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act of 2013 and requested that all stakeholders maintain confidentiality throughout the ongoing process.
