Guwahati: Bajali district in Assam logged a perfect record for childbirths. Every single delivery occurred within a health institution between April and July 2026. This marks a 100 percent institutional delivery rate and zero home births for the first four months of the current financial year. Health officials confirmed 713 total deliveries, and all of them took place at medical facilities.
The climb to this milestone has been steady. The rate hit 99.65 percent in the 2024-25 period before edging up to 99.81 percent in 2025-26. Total institutional deliveries stood at 3,167 in 2024-25 and 3,321 in 2025-26. Home deliveries plummeted from 11 in 2024-25 to just six the following year, finally dropping to zero this term.
Success stems from aggressive work at the grassroots level. Frontline staff pushed hard for better outcomes. They relied on regular antenatal care, direct counseling for expectant mothers, and consistent health awareness programs. Officials credit the shift to these combined efforts. "Institutional deliveries allow mothers and newborns to receive care from trained medical personnel," according to health department data. This shift ensures quick access to emergency help if complications strike during or after labor.
