Guwahati: Assam handed out 1.34 lakh metric tonnes of rice for free this July. Roughly 70 lakh families across the state received the grain under a food security push. The government aims to feed every household in the state.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the update on social media. He touted the program as a direct result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision. "Anna Sewa Se Jan Sewa is our commitment to every household," Sarma said.

The relief continues next month. Officials will bring back subsidised masoor dal and sugar starting in August 2026. This move plugs those items back into the public distribution system to help families stretch their budgets further.
