Guwahati: Bibhab Kumar Talukdar is now a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London. This group ranks among the oldest and most respected biological organizations on the planet. Founded in 1788, the society focuses on evolution and natural history. They do not hand this out to just anyone.
Talukdar serves as the founder and leader of Aaranyak, a group based in Assam. He joins a list of past members that includes legendary figures like Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace. The honor recognizes his massive impact on biodiversity and the study of the natural world.
He spent thirty years fighting to save Asian rhinoceroses. Talukdar ran the IUCN SSC Asian Rhino Specialist Group for over a decade. His work covers habitat protection and stopping wildlife crime across Northeast India. He pushes for local people to lead conservation efforts. Officials confirmed the election on Monday, July 6.
Talukdar holds several high-level honors already. He became an Ashoka Fellow in 2007. More recently, he earned the "IUCN SSC Harry Messel Award for Conservation Leadership in 2024" for his commitment to the field. This latest title confirms his status as a major voice in global science.
