Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed on Tuesday that police arrested a suspect linked to a violent road rage assault in Guwahati. He explicitly denied that the man holds any ties to the BJP. The statement comes after reports identified the primary suspect, Abhilash Dutta, as a party youth leader.

The incident started when the complainant overtook Dutta's car. A heated argument quickly turned physical. The victim filed an FIR at the Latasil Police Station, claiming that Dutta and two others, Apurba Sinha and Mirin Talukdar, attacked him. The victim also alleged he received death threats after filing the report to force him to drop the case.

Video footage of the attack spread across social media, sparking public outrage. Dutta claimed the complainant was driving recklessly before the confrontation began. Police are currently investigating the matter and have launched formal legal proceedings against all three men.

Sarma addressed the situation on X, formerly Twitter. "The accused has been arrested and is not associated with the BJP. Road rage has no place in Assam. Anyone who indulges in such acts will face the full force of the law," he wrote. Authorities maintain that the investigation remains active as they prepare to process the case through the courts.
