Guwahati: The Assam Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption arrested an Assam Civil Service officer on May 21 following a bribery investigation. Lachit Kumar Das, who serves as the Additional Director of Land Records, was taken into custody after authorities caught him allegedly accepting a bribe at his office in Rupnagar, Guwahati.

The operation followed a complaint from an individual who reported that Das demanded 1 lakh rupees to issue a No Objection Certificate for a land sale. The complainant contacted the anti-corruption agency to report the demand instead of paying the requested amount.

During the sting operation, officials found Das in his office chamber with 45,000 rupees, which they identified as a partial payment of the bribe. Agents seized the cash in the presence of independent witnesses and gathered evidence to support the arrest. Authorities have officially registered a case against Das under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Legal proceedings against the officer are currently in progress.
