Guwahati: Vigilance and Anti-Corruption officials in Assam arrested Additional Director of Land Records Lachit Kumar Das on Thursday after catching him accepting a bribe. The officer was apprehended at his Rupnagar office in Guwahati while taking 45,000 rupees. Authorities initiated the trap after receiving a complaint alleging that Das demanded 1 lakh rupees to issue a no-objection certificate for land sale permission.

Following the arrest, investigators searched the officer's residence in the Beltola area. The operation uncovered 1.18 crore rupees in cash along with fixed deposit certificates valued at 80 lakh rupees held under the names of Das and his family members. Officials also recovered documents related to two plots of land.

DIG Bedanta Madhab Rajkhowa confirmed the scale of the recovered assets, noting that the search yielded significant amounts of cash and property records. The state has registered a case against Das under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Authorities are currently continuing their investigation into the officer's financial activities.
