Assam Chief Minister Urges Centre to Help Build State Into National Sports Hub

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Union Minister for Labour and Employment and Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, in New Delhi this week. The hour-long discussion at the Union Minister’s residence focused on expanding sports infrastructure across Assam and establishing better welfare mechanisms for the state’s workforce, referred to by the Chief Minister as Shramjeevis.

Sarma sought continued support from the central government to help realize Assam’s goal of becoming a major sporting destination for India. The Chief Minister emphasized that his government is committed to nurturing young talent, upgrading sporting facilities, and attracting national and international events to the region.

Highlighting the BJP’s guiding philosophy of Sewa First, Sarma thanked the Union Minister for dedicating time to these policy discussions on his birthday. The meeting aligns with the state’s ongoing development agenda, which identifies the growth of the sports sector as a vital component in boosting Assam's national and regional profile.
