Assam Chief Minister Reviews Progress of 11 New Medical Colleges

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma convened a meeting at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati to evaluate the ongoing construction of 11 medical colleges and hospitals. The session focused on accelerating healthcare infrastructure development and addressing administrative requirements for four additional facilities currently in the pre-construction phase.

Sarma instructed relevant departments to strictly adhere to project timelines to ensure facilities are ready for public use. He emphasized the necessity of consistent oversight, directing the Director of Medical Education to conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress closely. According to the Chief Minister, consistent oversight will help accelerate the implementation of key healthcare and medical education projects across the state.

The review also addressed the operational status of BSc Nursing and General Nursing and Midwifery institutes. Officials discussed the roles of Project Management Consultants tasked with overseeing future infrastructure work. Beyond construction, Sarma encouraged the integration of green initiatives, suggesting that the Forest Department coordinate plantation drives across all campuses to promote environmental sustainability.

The meeting included participation from MLA Taranga Gogoi, Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, and Additional Chief Secretary K K Dwivedi. Senior representatives from the Medical Education and Research Department and the Public Works Department were also present to coordinate the efforts.
