Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has officially launched the Assam Premier League, a state level cricket tournament featuring eight teams. The initiative aims to bolster the regional sporting ecosystem by offering emerging players a professional environment to showcase their skills.
Sarma announced the development on social media, emphasizing the league as a vital opportunity for regional talent. "Good news for budding cricketers of Assam! Launched the Assam Premier League, our own cricket league where eight teams will vie for glory," he stated.
Organized in collaboration with the Assam Cricket Association, the league seeks to bridge the gap between grassroots talent and professional cricket. The Chief Minister credited the association for creating this competitive pathway, noting, "It's an excellent effort by the Assam Cricket Association to give a platform to grassroots-level players so they can make it to the domestic and national teams."
This launch aligns with Assam's broader strategy to enhance sports infrastructure and talent development. By providing this consistent platform, the state hopes to identify promising athletes capable of competing at domestic and national levels.
