Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Expands Cabinet with 12 New Ministers

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expanded his administration on Friday, swearing in 12 new cabinet ministers for the BJP-led government's third consecutive term. Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oaths during a ceremony attended by the Chief Minister.

The new appointees include Ashwini Ray Sarkar, Bimal Borah, Biswajit Daimary, Jayant Mallabaruah, Kaushik Rai, Keshab Mahanta, Krishnendu Paul, Nilima Devi, Pijush Hazarika, Ranoj Pegu, Ashok Singhal, and Sushanta Borgohain. Sarma had announced the full list of ministers one day prior to the swearing-in event.

Ashok Singhal expressed his commitment to the government's electoral agenda, citing a focus on safety and economic independence. "We will make a developed Assam, we will make a safe and secure Assam, and we will make an Atmanirbhar Assam, fulfilling whatever promises we have made through our Sankalp Patra," he stated.

For Sushanta Borgohain, the appointment carries specific regional significance as it brings representation to the Sivasagar district after nearly 20 years. Borgohain noted that he intends to work closely with the Chief Minister to ensure Assam emerges as one of the leading developed states in India.
