Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has ordered rigorous security measures for the NEET-UG re-examination scheduled for June 21. During a high-level video conference with district officials and police chiefs, he emphasized the need for a transparent and secure testing environment for the 43,319 students registered across 17 districts.

The state government is implementing a multi-layered security strategy for the 87 testing centers. This includes transporting question papers under military supervision and deploying police for round-the-clock protection at all venues. Authorities will enforce Section 144 within a 100-meter radius of each location, while candidates will undergo double-layer frisking upon entry. To prevent unauthorized communication, mobile signal jammers will be active at every site.

Regarding the comprehensive oversight required for the day, Sarma stated, "Assam has always taken strict measures to ensure that there are no loopholes in the entire process. I've instructed officials to continue with our monitoring and ensure exams are held in a free and fair manner."

Additional precautions include installing CCTV surveillance systems at all venues, supported by mandatory technical audits and dry runs of all monitoring equipment. Each district will have a designated officer at the Deputy Superintendent level to oversee the security of bank lockers where test materials are stored. Furthermore, officials will deploy women police personnel to assist at the centers. A dedicated control room will begin operations on June 19 to coordinate logistics. As a gesture of support, candidates presenting valid admit cards will receive free travel on Assam State Transport buses on the day of the exam.
