Guwahati: The Nalbari district administration has officially approved plans for a five-kilometer Emergency Landing Facility on National Highway 27. Stretching between Tihu and Madhapur, this project represents the second such auxiliary runway in Assam designed to enhance regional strategic infrastructure.

The runway will be constructed to rigorous military standards, featuring reinforced surfaces capable of supporting heavy transport aircraft. While primarily intended for security operations, the facility is also equipped to handle civilian commercial flights during natural disasters or other emergencies where rapid deployment of personnel and supplies is critical.

The National Highways Authority of India is currently working with local officials to manage safety requirements for the site. This includes enforcing strict zoning regulations and maintaining clear approach paths to ensure the runway remains free of construction hazards. The initiative follows the successful launch of the state's first emergency facility near Dibrugarh, reinforcing a broader effort to improve logistical capabilities across the Northeast.
