Kohima: Officials from Jorhat, Assam, and Mokokchung, Nagaland, met Friday to keep the peace. They gathered at the Mangkolemba ADC Conference Hall to address ongoing border friction. Both sides promised to hold their current positions at Aosenden village, sticking to the terms of a July 2021 agreement.
Construction must stop. Neither district will build anything new that breaks the existing pact. For Aokum village, magistrates from both states will head out for a joint inspection within the next week. That is a firm deadline.
District leaders plan to keep the lines open. They will share contact details for new police and magistrates to ensure nobody loses track of their counterparts. Official visits now require notice, and planners must respect local traditions. As the official release stated, they resolved to "take local sensitivities, including Sunday observance in Nagaland, into account while planning official engagements."
